Grrrrr!!! I adore animal prints and I am going to date by self. I can remember when nice girls did not wear animal prints. Well that day has past. It is ok for mom and other straight laced woman to adorn themselves in exotic prints. No longer is this left to runway models. But before you deck your self out in all over animal prints, stop and take note of a few rules that will raise your outfit to chic and not a fashion don’t.

First remember that this is one place where a little is better than a lot. Zebra prints, Cheetah prints, Giraffe prints, and leopard spots must be tempered with solids such as black, brown, beige, and crisp white.

A splash of this print in a scarf, a blouse or even a skirt makes a strong but a tasteful statement. One of my favorite things to wear is a black pants suit with animal print jewelry.

Shy about animal prints? Well then this may be a trend to skip. Because part of wearing it well, is confidence! To pull it off is to own it! If you do want to wear what was once thought of as a trend but is now a staple in our arsenal of fashion attire, Wear it and don’t let it wear you!

I hate to feel so smug but I am not the only one discussing Angelina Jolie’s dress. No one is questioning the beauty of the wearer, but I question the selection of the dress. The color is just too dull and matronly and now it’s being questioned if the dress was on backwards. Well folks, if it was then it would have let us have a view of her knees from the top! It would have covered her horrible tattoos if turned around. Let’s bury this bone and pray she picks a better dress for the Oscars. OMG!!! This means I will have to watch another awards show.

There are days when watching new things evolve in the fashion world make my mouth drop to my chest. When I see something so new, fresh, and unique, my pulse races. I love, love, LOVE jewelry!

I like unique things that set me apart from the crowd and may make the casual observer stop and talk with me. So when I saw the king of metals, gold, coming in nine, count them, nine colors, some I was totally unaware of, I was mesmerized. We have all seen yellow, white, and rose gold, but now there is chocolate, green, raspberry, purple, teal and black gold. What a joy to have these fresh new items to wear. Since yellow gold does not compliment by complexion, and I have been limited to white gold, I now have many other choices. I am jumping for joy at the thought of the other colors of gold!

I am now going to sit on my hands, and count my pennies until I can’t stand it. I will then, and only then, delve into the exotic world of colored gold!

Only coming into fashion for women during World War 1 for work purposes, pants are now acceptable apparel for everyday. This is one of the most abused pieces of clothing around. To paraphrase Johnny Corcoran, “if the pants don’t fit, the wearer should quit (wearing them)!”

How many times have you watched a women walk by stuffed in pants too tight or ill fitting to be on the street? Well let me tell my sisters of all sizes. Just because a designer or manufacturer makes something in your size it does not mean its appropriate for your body type. Pants can be tricky. They have to fit at the waist. No gaping in the back. We do not need to see your Victoria Secret thongs. If you are lucky enough to have large hips and a small waist, buy the pants to fit the hips but invest in a little tailoring to customize them to fit you.

This raises another area that needs careful attention. Too short a rise will create the deeded muffin tops. Good for Sara Lee, but bad on any size female. Too long a rise will be uncomfortable and give you the old lady look. The thigh area is one place where fitting can make or break a pair of pants.

Heavy thighs should not be stuffed into the skinny pants and skinny thighs need less material so as not look as if they are lost in them. Each year fashion designers will tell you what the “in” thing is, but women who dress well, will go with what is their best look. Also the type of shoe can dictate what your pants length should be.

There are pants in all lengths, including shorts. We should burn the short shorts, but most women can wear some type, if the length is appropeiate for their size and age. Capris and cropped pants are not good for short, full figured women. They cut the legs off and make them look dumpy.

A good pair of pants can make or break an outfit. They can also make for a long day if they don’t fit well. Don’t do the crime of buying pants that make you look and feel bad. Clothes should be an extension of your personality and not a billboard letting the world know that you should have checked the mirror before you left home!
