This high fashion week show, by invitation only, brought out the hippest designers and is the predictor of what we should be wearing for spring.

After looking at two hours of the new items, I came to one conclusion. If you are not slim or at least fit, these fashions will be hard to wear. There are a lot of short jackets that reach only to the waist and skinny pants are still in. Those of us with a lot of junk in the trunk might find these hard to wear.

One of the new designers was uber conservative Elizabeth Hasslebeck of the View. Not one of my favorite people to be sure. She brought fabrics and styles that looked, at least to me, that would look better on those who go by the rule you are never too thin. I did like the look of one of her blouses. It was a one shoulder number. But I was wondering how a real woman who needed a bra could wear it. I must not have gotten the memo because they do have bras to wear with this style.

Hasselback, as well of the other designers, are taking jackets in a new direction. They are softer, but constructed with seaming that gives them a great fit. Her fashion had great color and high style but I don’t see how they will translate to the average woman who wears a 16 or larger.

Handbags will be in the spotlight this spring since bright colors are the name of the game. If you shrink from wearing a sunny yellow or line green dress, why not “pop” your outfit with a wonderful, colorful hand bag? Cate Adair has reinvented the old favorite clutch. They now have room to put your things in and places to organize everything. She also had some larger handbags in bright colors. They did not look like the trunks some designers are passing off as handbags.

Chloe Dao’s line leaves me a little cold. A lot of her things need to be dry cleaned and I am not sure what to think of them. I will have to do some research before I can take a stand on her fashions.

Thank God for Marc Bower. His clothes were the only one that had things I could see myself and my friends in. His jackets were a little longer. Not as long as last year, but long enough for tush coverage. Since jackets are so much at the forefront, he had a great faux leather motorcycle jacket that had my name all over it. He showed it with jeans or a long silk skirt for the evening. How versatile is that! Remember when faux leather was a bad word. Well now it’s the “in” thing even in high style. Marc Also showed some animal prints, but they were not in the old brown, cream, and white. Animal prints were now in colorful hues of pink and blue which were dominant in his dresses.

Well, as you know know, I personally love color. But I will have to see how the new looks will trickle down to those of us with the less than perfect bodies. I, for one, hope I can bring some of these colors into my wardrobe.
