The SAG awards brought out the beautiful and brightest actors to walk the Red Carpet. I must admit this is the first time in my life that I had watched one of these shows in its entirety. I am not a big fan of evening clothes. I think it is because of the fact that I worked nights for decades, and didn’t have a need for this type of attire.

The one thing that was very apparent was that color was everywhere. Prominent were shades of red and coral, and many shades of yellow, reminiscent of the first lady, Michelle Obama’s, inaugural outfit. Some of the ladies tried to go “old Hollywood” and it was really nice to see beautiful women in dresses fitted and draped on perfect, if not too thin, bodies.

Angelina Jolie is a great actress, but her dress left me cold. This navy number was very plain in front with flutter sleeves. The surprise was that the back plunged to a depth that caused me to hold my breath. She chose to wear or not wear nude lip color. I thought she looked too pale.

Although I only saw Phylicia Rashard in a sitting position, her paisley print looked as if it would have been better at a PTA meeting.

Penelope Cruz was one of the best dressed stars on the Red Carpet, with a drop dead black dress that had a halter neck line and the shirk was fitted to her figure ending in slight fishtail. Glamorous can’t define or express how good she looked.

Viola Davis was luminescent in a bright yellow dress that stood out and showed off her figure to a tee. This showed why picking the right color for your skin hue is so important. Two that missed the boat with color even though the dresses were nice was Ugly Betty star America Ferrar, in her light brown dress trimmed in dark brown. This did little for her complexion. White can be hard to wear but Amy Poehler looked almost ill. The color washed her already pale skin out to ghostly and ghastly proportions.

Do you become jaded once you reach the status of Meryl Streep? She stated “I didn’t buy a dress!” Well this told me that she knew she looked a mess. I have seen bag ladies dressed better. She rolled out of bed and jumped in a pants suit with a vee neck and pirate bell sleeves. What was she thinking?

I might revisit the clothing worn at the SAG Awards on another day. But for now, I will sit and ponder how so many people with money and access to the best designers in the world, can look so bad. While others stepped out and whose glitter and style shone through!
